How Do Different Countries Celebrate Christmas As It Approaches?

Christmas is a very important holiday abroad, and different countries have different ways of celebrating it.

Family Party

Many countries hold family gatherings on Christmas Day. Family members will rush home from various places to reunite and prepare a sumptuous Christmas feast together. In the United States, a typical Christmas feast includes roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and more. Family members will also decorate the Christmas tree together, hanging decorations such as lights, balls, and small gifts on the tree. Children will search for their own gifts under the tree.

In the UK, there is also Christmas pudding at family gatherings. It is a traditional dessert that contains various dried fruits and is flavored with alcohol added during the production process.

Church Service

Christmas has a strong religious color, so in many European countries, people go to church for worship before or on Christmas Day. For example, in Italy, churches hold grand Mass events where people pray, sing hymns, and commemorate the birth of Jesus.

In Germany, church bells are particularly loud during Christmas, and people feel the sacred atmosphere in the bells, reflecting on the past year and looking forward to the new year.

Exchange Gifts

This is an important part of Christmas. In France, people will carefully choose gifts, which can be books, perfume, high-grade chocolate, etc. Children will send their wish lists to Santa Claus and wake up on Christmas morning to receive gifts.

In Canada, people exchange gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and attach greeting cards filled with blessings.

Outdoor Celebration

In some Nordic countries, such as Norway and Sweden, due to snow cover, people engage in outdoor activities such as skiing and ice skating to celebrate Christmas. The entire town was covered in snow, with people skiing everywhere, as if they were in a white fairy tale world.

In Australia, Christmas falls during the summer season and people go to the beach to surf and barbecue. At the beach, you can see many families bringing food and drinks, enjoying the sunshine and waves on the beach, forming a sharp contrast with the cold Christmas in the northern hemisphere.
