- Tax credits and rebates: As part of the Inflation Reduction Act, the federal government covers 30% of the cost of high-efficiency heat pumps, including installation labor costs, up to $2,000. In addition, the federal and state governments have passed the High-Efficiency Electricity Residential Rebate Act to save low- and middle-income families between $4,000 and $8,000. Local utility companies and some HVAC manufacturers also offer hundreds of dollars in rebates for the purchase of high-efficiency heat pumps.
- Installation target: The U.S. Climate Alliance announced that it will promote a four-fold increase in heat pump installations in its 25 states within ten years, that is, to install a total of 20 million heat pumps in the alliance by 2030 to achieve building decarbonization goals.
Europe
- UK: The government launched the “Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive” program to provide financial incentives for homeowners who install renewable heating systems, including air source heat pumps. In the 2024-2025 financial year, the UK Department for Energy Security and the Net Zero Emissions Program will provide an additional £30 million in funding for the boiler upgrade program, bringing the total budget to £180 million. Installers can apply for a £7,500 reduction in air source heat pump costs and installation fees on behalf of homeowners.
- Germany: Implementing an “Environmental Bonus” subsidy program to provide households with subsidies of up to 45% of the total cost of installing or replacing air source heat pumps. In addition, the installation of heating equipment using oil in new and existing buildings will be prohibited in 2026.
- France: Launched the “coup de pouce chauffage” program to provide financial incentives of up to 4,000 euros for homeowners who switch from traditional heating systems to air-source heat pumps.
- Italy: In general, the government can fully subsidize the cost of households purchasing heat pumps.
- The Netherlands: Consumers who purchase heat pump products can generally receive a subsidy of 2,200 euros.
- Spain: Consumers who purchase heat pumps can receive a 35% cost subsidy, low-income households can receive an additional 10%, and the government will provide an additional 15% subsidy for building renovations.
